Whenever we draw we must establish the basic forms and guidelines for these to draw our drawing.
When you draw manga, you start by drawing a template of the head, add the hair, in this type of art the hair distinguishes the characters, and finally the eyes, which are also characteristic.
Another basic aspect, super important is the facial expressions, since being a kind of comics, facial expressions denote communication, convey more about your character.
As I said a moment ago the eyes are a characteristic feature in the anime, they vary a lot not only between each artist but also between characters within the same anime or manga.
They express much of the personality of the character. You will see later how to draw them perfectly.
FULL BODY DRAWINGS
To make full body characters, I recommend you study the proportions, and use as a basic mold “stick men”, these will allow you to establish the position of your character, arms, and legs.
Then add the silhouette around your stick man, for the depth of the body, define each detail and at this time it is important that you establish your gender. And finally, add the detail as clothes and features.
As for the proportions, you should make sure that the head has the correct proportions, the hands should be relatively the size of the head or a little smaller.
If you do not know how to draw some figures or objects, you have online research for you to have a reference.
These are general techniques for you to have an idea, in the next section you will learn in more detail how to make the body and the most important features when drawing manga.
How to Learn to Draw an Anime Body and Manga Step by Step
When we refer to an anime body, it is important to know multiple aspects or characteristic features that are included in everybody, and in anime, they are especially important since they are distinctive features.
Then I will present a general technique for drawing bodies, in an undifferentiated way, that is, it serves for basic male and female characters.
STEP 1. BASIC FORMS
Start drawing a circle for the head, at the bottom add a line in the form of “V” for the face. Inferior to this structure, draw a large rectangle and a circle of the same diameter, leaving enough space for the neck between these structures.
Finally, draw lines and circles to direct the movement and position of the extremities, and divide the rectangle that will be the torso.
STEP 2. DRAW THE BASIC SCHEME OF THE BODY
For the body itself, trace ovals around the lines, this will demarcate your character’s arms and legs.
At the end of the circles, which mark the palms of the hands, draw simple lines for the fingers. Finally add the details you think are necessary, such as knee lines or body folds.
STEP 3. ADD MORE DETAILS
In this last step, you can add some semicircular lines in the torso if you want to highlight that your character is already developed female gender, but simply delete the baselines.
Add your character’s clothes, according to the style you want to give them and finally add the color if that’s what you want. If you want you can make the black and white drawing, or work with a grayscale blurring the tones.
How to Learn to Draw the Face Anime and Manga Step by Step
To draw an anime face that seems to be done by the same professional is something quite simple, that deserves just a lot of patience and practice to perfectly master the strokes.
Something important that you should know about the anime faces is that for men and women the same general recommendations are followed with a small difference in the jaw, is that of women finer and that of men sometimes more square.
Another element that helps us differentiate gender is hair, an important aspect of these drawings. Now if we start with the step by step to draw anime/manga faces.
STEP 1. BASIC FORM
Start by drawing a circle and a small bottom line in the shape of a “V” for the head and chin of the character. Then draw a vertical line, going through the center of the face, this will serve for symmetry.
STEP 2. DRAW THE LINE OF THE EYE
The lines of the eyes will be located towards the lower part of the circle that you previously traced. The eyes vary depending on the character you are drawing. The eyes of children, young people and protagonists tend to be larger.
The eyes are one of the most important features of the manga, they express the personality and mood of the person. In the form of an arrow, it shows meditation and anger, bigger and round ones show surprise, open and with small pupils denote fear.
STEP 3. TRACK THE REST OF THE FEATURES
To draw the nose you can make it straight or curved and a small mouth. Usually, the boys’ nose is smaller and it rises and rounds to show happiness. Slanted eyebrows show anger, raised surprise.
STEP 4. DRAW THE HAIR
As you see so far our drawing is quite neutral, with the hair we will define the genre, in this case, it is a female character, which we will draw with a tail, a bow, and some accessories.
A very characteristic touch of the anime, regardless of the genre, is that the characters are almost 100% straight hair and mostly have polling, bangs or strands that cover the face.
